By the way, this works great for Windows users too–Macs can’t natively write to the Windows NTFS file system, although they can read files from NTFS drives. So no matter what your primary platform, exFAT is probably the way to go. –Download Paragon NTFS for Mac (there’s a free trial if you hit the Download button here). -Double click the “ntfsmac14.dmg” file downloaded to your Mac and follow the onscreen.
If you're sharing files between your Mac and NTFS-formatted Windows drive, you're stuck in read-only mode with OS X's default drivers. But the Hackszine blog describes how to go read/write on NTFS with previously-mentioned filesystem mounter, MacFUSE.
